Happy Turkey Day!! =) Hope that everyone is having a GREAT Thanksgiving with friends, family, strangers etc.! This morning I ran the Albemarle, North Carolina 8K Turkey Trot... it was as exciting as it sounds.... it was FREEZING!! Although warmer than last Sunday... that's for sure! My time was 50min38sec... not horrible considering my sore knee... my brother actually examined my knee and it doesn't look like my IT band is messed up... YEAH!!! Sad news... my meniscus is torn. =( The only fix is surgery... but great news is I can't mess it up more!! It just will hurt. Such is life...

Happy Thanksgiving. This group is one of the parts of my life that I give thanks for. This much fun should be illegal!
My sister and I ran the local 5K turkey trot - then sat in the parking lot for 30 minutes waiting to exit! Good thing we were talking too much to notice how we were cramping up!
This morning I forced her to run for 30 minutes with me. There's a new creek trail behind her house that connects with a longer (14 mile) trail that I ran on Tuesday. Beautiful!
So, it's Nations, New Jersey and maybe Philly for the Olympics?
The 8K was sold out when I took Elsa for packet pickup, so I ran my 4 mile route later in the day. It was Elsa's first marathon, and she was amazingly casual about recovery. All I could do was buy everything I could think of(bagels, hummus, breadsticks, etc.) to have available for her. Fed her carbs and protein for dinner. Bought her a bag of ice. I'm surprised I missed Dave, as she came in at 4:59. Shannon Hanley finished in 4:27, 3 minutes better than last time.
Having an interesting midwestern Thanksgiving. We stay in the house, watch videos, play games, and eat everything EXCEPT fresh fruits and vegetables. Only fried things... Today we'll go for pizza for lunch, BBQ for dinner. Maybe bowling.
Just registered for Nation's triathlon... =)
Hey kids - I missed registering for the Philly Tri at last year's price. I don't think I'm going to do it this year. I think I'll volunteer instead. I think my focus is going to be on the sprints. I'm having problems with my left achilles tendon, my right foot, and the usually right knee pain that no one seems to know how to fix, especially since it doesn't show up on an MRI. I will still consider Nations, though, if it doesn't sell out first.
My Thanksgiving was wonderful! My parents and sister/sister's boyfriend came up for the weekend. Mike had to leave on Thanksgiving but my parents and sister didn't leave until yesterday. Then we stopped over to Eric's parents house. They joined my family for Thanksgiving dinner and it worked out great! Only one minor embarrassment when the turkey slipped off the cutting board and profanity spewed from the kitchen (out of my dad's mouth of course)...I apologized to Eric's mom and all she did was say, "sounds like we're at my house!" I guess our dads are similar! So all in all, it was a smashing success! I am afraid to jump on the scale so I'm not going to for at least a few days!
OK - I should get to work! Have a great day!
Shannon-Are you going to have the surgery after the Disney marathon or just going to live with the pain?
On Thanksgiving morning, I took Liz to go see Ms. Fran run down on Forbidden Drive. Denise, her mother and Maggie went to Ft. Dix to serve Thanksgiving turkey to about 800 soldiers. I then went to the Eagles game on Thanksgiving night. Thankfully, they played well.
I am signed up for Philadelphia and Nations for now. I will probably sign up more after Jan 1.
I also signed up for Nation's last weekend. What's up with Ithaca? Are doing Ithaca?
Eric and I talked about doing Ithaca and making a couples weekend out of it and doing a wine tour after the race. It's Sunday, Aug 2nd. I mentioned it last summer as a place for one of the tri's we could travel to.
SO - I'm still not sure about Philly but I'm leaning towards Nations at the end of the summer. Sounds like you're all doing it!
I'm definitely in for Nation's... can't decide about Philly... I'm in for Eagleman as well. I am planning on a couple more Olympics and some sprints. I am going to sign up for those after Jan 1st- the race in Ithaca sounds fun... what are people's thoughts on it?
I definitely have to get the knee fixed... it will never heal on its own and the pain is no fun. I am going to see to a couple of drs to check out their timelines... I should be running on it (conservatively) 6weeks after surgery and riding a bike and swimming 3 days after. In Shannon's ideal world... I will run Disney in (insert jumping jack worthy work) pain... have the surgery right after the marathon... that will give me plenty of time to heal for the Half-marathon I am running with about 7 people from work/soccer the end of March. Hopefully my schedule works!! =)
Shannon - you are very aggressive in your healing plan. Wow! Good luck! I think I say this a lot but just listen to your body. It'll let you know whether or not you're ready for a half marathon in March!
I just found out that I have a conflict with the Ithaca tri. There's a big Longaberger Conference that weekend in Ohio that I'm going to. Weak, I know. Maybe next year ('10) we can do the Ithaca tri?
Skipping a triathlon for a conference is one thing... for a basket conference is another! =) (That's why I love you Beth... love of sport and love of baskets!)
I thought the plan was aggressive too, but the other options put forth were actually more aggressive... go figure! I have 16x400m sprints tonight... it will interesting to see how 'sprint' like they are!! =)
Beth-What is wrong with you? You are choosing a weekend in Ohio over a weekend trip to the Finger Lakes in which you will visit multiple wineries?
Besides, you will be with child in '10 and won't be drinking wine. I think we should plan for '11.
Shannon-did you already signup for Eagleman? The website shows that it is sold out.
yes... i signed up the day it opened! Hmmmm... you make a strong point about the non-drinking challenge of reproducing.... the sacrifice the group is making for wicker baskets is amazing! =)
