I agree with Beth... we needed a new posting! Hope folks had a good Saturday... Michaelle and I enjoyed the Pine Barrens triathlon today... (800m swim, 25 mile bike and 4 mile run)... Michaelle rocked it out with a 2nd place age group finish... missing out on first by only 26 seconds. =) I knocked 16minutes off my time from St.Anthony's and that's with getting a pinch flat tire... 80minutes. (between 3-4min of that 80minutes was tire changing... which I know isn't great Dave, but better than Marlton last year which was over 10). Averaged just over 12min. miles (slow) for my run, but 1.5 miles of it was on sand (listen to my excuses!!!) and my swim was 14:30 without goggles (thanks to a fellow triathlete). I am excited for some warm water... any day now!! =)
How was TNT practice? Any big plans for the upcoming holiday? I will be in NC... hopefully fishing and enjoying the boat if the weather cooperates... what are workout plans for Sunday (tomorrow)?

Hey Chuck, at the risk of inviting myself to the party, is there any chance for a swim in the Perk on Sunday morning around 11:30 or 12:00???
Congratulations Michelle on your group finish. Way to go Shannon, you are the Energizer Bunny, you just keep going and going.
Saturdays TNT swim was good. I biked to St. Joes from Montgomeryville then biked to a soccer tournament in Horsham and refereed 5 soccer games then biked home. Total 54 miles on the bike, I hope I am almost ready for Black Bear. I am trying but I not sure if I will be able to hold the interest of two young ladies.
Usually the perk houses are opened up during Memorial Day weekend and the boats are put in the water then. I will talk to my sister and confirm. No swimming up there today, as the rain has risen the water at least a foot and I am sure the currents are pretty strong. Without a boat to supervise, I think it would have been too dangerous.
I haven't ran this week as I have been trying to give my calf some R&R. Just stretching, riding the bike and swimming. Would have liked to have done some hill work this weekend, but that didn't happen. On the bringside, my grass hasn't been this green and full in a long time.
I would like to see if a mid-week swim is in the cards at the Perk. Will depend on the weather, so I will keep you posted.
Thanks Chuck for checking the Perk water conditions.
Wednesday night Bernadette and I are doing the Ride of Silence in Philadelphia. Then maybe the Thursday night swim. How do you get information about the swim?
Go to cgiracing.com and you click on any of their races... at the bottom of the page there is an area that says 'Looking for Open Water Swims?' It will link to information about the Wenonah swims... instead of sending out an email blast about the swims if the weather is questionable... Larry and Michelle have been posting to the NJ forum of Beginner Triathlete...
Go to www.beginnertriathlete.com
1) click forums
2) click search forums
3) search under New Jersey, (I use cgi racing as the keyword and search posts made in the last month)
Bernadette... if you go, Larry will have my long sleeve wetsuit, you can try that one on there as well... decide which you like better to swim in and I can use the other for Black Bear... can you bring both with you to the race?
If you don't make it to the swim, I will have Michaelle grab it... and you can decide later
Hey gang - not sure what I'll be doing this week - most likely biking and elliptical at the gym. No running until Thursday per doctor's orders. I really need to get back to my other gym to swim!
Shannon - no goggles? What happened?
Too few buoys meant folks crossed over the middle line on the swim back... dude crashed into me and broke my goggles... so I dumped them in the lake and finished swimming... sad because I liked them! Thankfully had extra contacts in transition since they didn't make the rest of the swim...
My parents feel bad about me missing chances to ride my bike here in Philly while visiting them in NC (keep going back and forth about bringing the bike)... so I now have spinning classes arranged with the head of the local YMCA who also happens to be the TNT century ride coordinator and an insane bike dude (he also happens to be my mom's new crush... 'he's hot' according to her latest call)... I think it is going to be miserably difficult-- regardless of his being hot... =(
Bummer. I had a head-on collision last year at the Hammonton tri but luckily I didn't lose my goggles. You still rocked on your time, though!
Sounds like your mom is having just as much fun with this as you are!
I think more fun!! =) But I guess that is only fair since she and my dad are the folks forced to watch and wait during races! =)
Regarding Shannon's collision, I asked her if the fellow stopped. She said he did, and when I asked what she said to him she reported "keep swimming." Nice of her to encourage a fellow athlete who just gave her a bloody nose!
Funny...that is what she said to me last year when she kept punching me in the groin during Saturday morning practices.
Thanks for the afternoon laugh!
I know you liked the groin punches... and miss them! ; )
Bernadette and I will be participating in the Ride of Silence Wednesday night in Philadelphia, Art Museum. Since I have been hit twice in the last two years and walked away, I feel Blessed and need to honor those that were not so lucky.
The Ride starts at 7 p.m. on May 21 following a brief ceremony at 6:45 p.m., it's meant to commemorate those who have been injured and killed while cycling on the road.

Let my rant begin...
Swam at the Y on Tuesday night. I got there right as the lap swim opened up and there was already 4 people swimming in one lane and 5/6 in the other. Within 10 minutes there was 7 people in the lane I was in. We were supposed to be swimming in circles, but because there was varying degrees of speed, people were swimming an inner circle too. I had to keep looking up and around the entire 45 minutes. It was as close to an open water swim without being outside. I must have done good because yesterday it was painful to look up towards the ceiling or work at the computer for long. I really need one of you people to win the lottery, buy a house that is relatively close to mine and build an indoor pool. I don't believe that I am asking too much and would appreciate it if this could be done rather soon, as the Philly Tri is less than a month away.
Oh, for the record-I have very little desire to swim in sub-70 water. Thanks Dave for this brilliant idea that we should participate in a triathlon in June in a spring-fed lake in the Poconos. Those things don't warm up even in the dog days of August. I am reading stories about people wearing two swim caps and vasaline on the hands and feet. Lubricate my feet? WHAT THE HECK ARE WE DOING?
Next time We, as a group, get to pick out where the Madden's will attempt the 1/2 Ironman. I would prefer warm and tropical. Or Vegas.
Shannon-If I can make it through the swim, you better get your bike up and down those hills. No excuses. No crap about a new bike, new shoes. If I can still feel my feet after this swim, I will personally use one them to kick your tail if you quit on us.
My ranting is done...
Bernadette and I had a great time at the Ride of Silence. It was very moving riding our bikes silently through the city with about 200 other riders including Nicole. Very Cool!
Tonight Bernadette and I are planning to swim at Lake Wenonah. Shannon we will get your wet suit.
Michaelle and I already swam in cold water... and survived...both in a race and at Nockamixon/Wenonah. The first Wenonah swim the water was 61. Therefore, while I am all up on winning the lottery and building an indoor pool... I don't buy the cold water complaints... the hills on the other hand.... I have no problem doing the hills... assuming you will take responsibility for damages to bike (Penn insurance will cover damages to person)... =)
Maddens/Michaelle... did someone grab the wetsuit?
Before I forget, I wanted to wish all of you a happy Memorial Day weekend! I hope you all enjoy the beautiful weather!
Weather permitting, I am going to swim at the Perk on Monday morning. Hopefully a couple of days of warmer (?) weather and no rain will do it good. If you are interested, let me know and I will call/text/email you with the time.
Oh-of my nine mentorees, six have made it to there minimum, two haven't raised anything since meeting the $500 minimum and one is about 1/2 way there.
Have a great weekend.
Hello tri-buddies, sorry for missing some things. Our internet connection has been a problem. Verizon is sending a new router. Connection is intermitent.
Shannon - we have your wetsuit.
Chuck - we are interested in the swim. Cell 267-474-9587 if internet goes down again.
We usually go to the Memorail Day Ceremony in Lansdale but we can stop at the memorial sometime on Monday.
Shannon: Dave & Bernadette swam at Wenonah and Bernadette has the suit. I never spoke Dave, as he spent the whole time I was there swimming... what a concept.
Chuck, three things: your rant appears to be more of a whine than a rant. At least you're checking on your mentees, so kudos for that. And I'd like to swim in the Perk tomorrow, so count me in. Cell 215-964-1850 if needed.
Hi Chuck - what time are you swimming in the Perk. Bernadette and I will bring the bagels.
Meeting in Oaks at 8-8:30 for bike ride. Swim in Perk around 10. See you all then.
Have a great ride and swim today... maybe CGI can move the triathlon to NC for next weekend... plenty of hills that compare to black bear... but the water in the lake/river is between 76-79... almost not legal for a wetsuit... today I am going to try being pulled by the boat across the lake... and not flying off! =)
