Hey everyone...
Figured it was time for a new post... I hope everyone had a great weekend. It was awesome seeing Michaelle work her volunteer magic at the Nation's triathlon on both Saturday and Sunday. =) Race weekend was a BLAST and I highly recommend you sign-up for the race next year... it sells out super fast... so sign-up early!! Despite the horrible heat and humdity... UGH!!... all three legs of the race were fun. The swim was easy going against the current (who knew) and filled with lots rough, choppy waves on the second leg... but still fun! =) The bike course was GREAT...only one loop, mostly flat... some small hills but nothing major and nice sights to check out... plus a completely closed course throughout DC and a little part of Maryland! The run was flat... but no shade and those miserable weather conditions made it a challenge. Thankfully, DC FireDept. set up rain tents for us to run through... which they forced people to do in an effort to keep those core temps. down... lots of water, powerade, gu and other supplies helped too. Fun finishing with the Capt. building right behind you.... despite not having done a serious bike ride since the NJ State triathlon in July and with limited swimming... I did have PR time of 3hrs and 27minutes.... which was just about the average finishing time... if the weather had not been evil... my time would have been better since my run leg was PAINFUL!!
What's the word up in Philly? Anything new and exciting... this week's training for me is three 5 mile runs (Tue, Wed, Thur); swim on Thur, soccer on Friday night and Saturday afternoon and a 19mile run on Saturday morning... I am very excited my week runs are now decreasing... I CAN FEEL THE TAPER COMING ON!! =) (the down side of that means the marathon is not far away... OMG!)

Shannon-Great job on the Nations Tri. Please let us know when we can sign up for it, as I would like to do a tri at this time next year.
I did the BMRC run on Sunday morning. UGH! I did not realize how hilly it was over there, as we spent most of the time either running up or running down a hill. That being said, it is a very beautiful run that is marked on the road (white spray painted arrows) to and from BMRC. Apparently it is something that has been marked for 40 years and you can go 5, 8 or 10 miles. My legs were still sore yesterday.
Heading out for a run at lunch...
Hey gang. I'm back...but I don't have much time to comment. Congrats Shannon!
Chuck - Ibuprofen!
It was way cool tooling around in DC on my bike on closed roads. Beautiful monuments all around, helicopters overhead, airplanes landing. Dawn over transition. Nice race people, too.
Got to hang with Shannon's parental units, who are always a blast. Her mom didn't get to see her race, as she was sick, but Shannon's dad called her from the finish line and held the phone out as Shannon ran past.
I haven't been working out - my excuse is my new assignment to the Police Dept, which I'm loving. But I've got LBI this Sunday, so am working out every day this week - Mon 3 mi run; Tue 30 min swim; Wed run; Thur swim/bike; Fri run; Sat swim with FINS masters team.
Chuck, how far did you run Sunday?
Had a drink with Nicole last week - she's great, got a new bike, is trying to find a place to live and many other things.
Hi tribuddies. Sounds like all are doing well but in many different directions. Congrats to everyone on your accomplishments. I myself have been very busy with the girls high school soccer team. Also training for the Philadelphia Distance Run this Sunday and the MS150 next weekend.
Chuck - thanks for the BMRC info, but I had already committed to others. I do hope to try it in the near future.
Shannon - when will you be in town so the Maddens can have a tri-buddy party at our house in the country. Of course we will have to work around the brides schedule.
You guys are all great!! We definitely need a get together. There aren't too many more weekends before the wedding!! Three weeks from Saturday! I should be working out a lot more but I have nothing to train for so I've become quite a slacker! At least I have my personal trainer today. She'll kick my butt!
Have a great day all!
I think we need a Philly Distance Run post. Maybe Mr. "PR" Madden can start one!
Philadelphia Distance Run report
by Mr. "PR" Madden
I felt very good during the entire race. I think I could have ran a little faster but did not because I did not want to chance leg cramps. The legs never did cramp and I felt strong at the end. My real goal was to run the race faster then 1:57:00 my time from 1984. Now I can say I ran the Philadelphia Distance Run (half marathon) 3 1/2 minutes faster then when I ran it 24 years ago when I was 27 years old. MS150 City to Shore - Shore to City bike ride next weekend. Next race - Philadelphia Marathon on November 23.
My actual splits from my watch are listed below.
1 8:38
2 8:36
3 8:41
4 8:45
5 8:50 (slowed down for Bernadette to take picture)
6 8:46
7 8:36
8 8:32
9 8:51 (trouble getting water at water stop, actually had to walk back to previous table)
10 8:38
11 8:49 (thought I was being paced by people around me not realizing we had all slowed)
12 8:17 (picked it up to get back onto scheduled)
13 8:43 (long slight uphill toward Museum of Art, in the sun, temperature getting hotter, previous mile)
.1 0:49 (8:10 pace) (BIG FINISH)
Total time - 1:53:29 (8:40 pace)
