I plan on being at the GAP tonight...I just have to check with Deirdre. Eric and I are going to the Phoenixville Country Club tonight to look at the place so we should be able to get there by 8 pm...I'm not sure what time Deirdre is thinking, though. I'll get back to you.
The race was AWESOME!! I'm going to put that on my calendar every year! 23,000 people flooded San Fran to do this race. 900 of them were men, the rest women! It was amazing...and all to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!
I met so many nice people it was ridiculous! TNT was everywhere. I've never seen so much purple in one place! The only downside was that I didn't wear my TNT shirt so no one cheered for me. I felt snubbed, actually, but other than that, it was great.
If you want to learn what a real race expo is, you have got to see this... Of course, women appreciate this more... there were free massages, foot massages, manicures, raffles to win ipods...someone actually won a pair of diamond Tiffany's earrings on Thursday night! If you did a yoga class you got to keep the mat! Jet Blue sponsored the manicures so they gave you a pouch with lotions, an eye mask, and ear plugs...which came in handy! Jamba juice gave away free samples of their fruit smoothies at the expo and at the end of the race they had the smoothies with a protein boost to speed up muscle recovery. Ghiradelli was handing out chocolate all day long. Around mile 12 they had a table full of chocolate. At the finish line there were San Fran firefighters in tuxedos handing out Tiffany's necklaces in blue boxes.
At the end of the race they had free massages and Neutrogena had a tent where you could go in and freshen up and clean off your face, add more suntan lotion, etc.
Of course, the course wasn't easy. Mile 6 is a hill. The entire MILE 6 is a HILL! We walked up that one. There were quite a few hills but the scenery was breathtaking. Once my friend sends her pictures from the race, I'll show you how to get to them to see them... It was just awesome!
I wish they had the spectator buses a little more organized, though. Eric waited for over two hours for a bus to come and take him to the finish line. I got there before he did so he was pretty upset. Nike is going to hear about it from me. They charged $15 for the shuttle and he missed us at both drop offs!
After the race we headed up to Napa...which was also gorgeous! We went to 5 wineries on Monday and 5 on Tuesday...and still had so many we wanted to try. We needed more time there! The leaves were changing and the weather was perfect...low 80's and NO humidity! I can't tell you enough how much fun we had. We met a lot of nice people on Monday, too, because we did a tour so we wouldn't have to drive. I highly recommend it! The whole trip was a bit expensive, but totally worth it!
Congratulations! I am glad that you enjoyed yourself and all the free swag. I wouldn't care so much for the eye mask and earrings myself. Should see you all around 8ish.
OK - I heard from Deirdre...she'll be in the city at some fancy dinner so if she gets out of there at a decent hour, then she'll see us at the GAP. If not, then we're on our own. She's going to call if she can make it there around 8-9.
Hopefully will be finished with a meeting in time to make it to socialize... =) the swag, race and expo sound great (not to mention the firefighters waiting at the finish line... makes the running part seem almost worth it!)
WOW Congratulations Beth. Sounds like you derseved all the good stuff. I'm finding this weather a good reason not to run so good for all of you runners. Looking at next years schedule. Are any of you ladies doing the Philly Women's tri and She Rox? I'm thinking about the Philly tri but the sprint distance. Really don't want to do the long run but who know might be ready for that distance come race time. Is any one doing the tri in Las vegas in April? I am feeling better went for an 8 1/2 mile ride on Sunday. It's amazing how quickly you can get out of shape. Getting over my post fall nervousness. Got to get back in shape to keep up.Take care.
Hope everyone had fun last night... I didn't get done until 9pm and was in West Philly so I figured it would be too late by the time I got to GAP. =( We must schedule another gathering soon!!
Bernadette... I am planning on both SheRox and Philly Women's (I really liked Philly Women's last year)... I am also 'planning' on Philly, but need to make a definite commitment... I am glad to hear you went out riding. I haven't been on my bike since the big crash (mostly because the bike is still in NC)... but I know the first time I ride it will be weird. I would love to do the Vegas triathlon... hmm-- part of this weekend may need to be dedicated to planning triathlons for next season... =)
I'd love to do the Vegas tri, too... I think I am going to do Diamond Girl in '08 and most likely the Philly Olympic distance. I just have to keep up with the training over the winter...that's the hardest part. I'm sure I'll do a few of the NJ D&Q sprint tri's, too. They are a lot of fun and not so hard on your body.
Shannon - I wouldn't have gotten to the GAP until 9, too. I guess Deirdre was having loads of fun at her dinner because I never heard from her. So Chuck was the only one who went. We need to be more organized the next time we try this. I was really just trying to return Deirdre's bike trainer. I assume we're going to try again. I might be able to make it out on Thursday. Wedding planning is consuming all of my time. We saw another place last night that we liked but it doesn't hold that many people. We're going to have to cut back on our guest list if we go there. Decisions...decisions!
