Out & Back Run - Again!!!

Hi Gang,
I plan to be a mentor for this year's Tri (with the new job at SEI, not thinking I have the energy to train and fund raise). I hopefully won't miss the next Happy Hours!

Here isthe email in reference to the ruun and AFTER PARTY!
Don't be afraid of the 4 miles (key - out and back - means turn around when ever you want!)

Greetings fellow runner! This is a friendly reminder of the 12th annual Bryn Mawr Running Club Out & Back Party Run 2008. The run will be held Friday April 25th. (rain or shine). If you are receiving this email you registered for this event last year.Due to the growing popularity of this run we expect a sold out event regardless of weather and encourage you to register early. The ONLY method is on-line via WWW.ACTIVE.COM which will become available when I get my arse in gear.No paper flyers or applications will be accepted! This will ensure a smooth race day registration. Pre-registration ends on April 15th, and on-line registration through Active will end April 23th. We cannot guarantee the event will remain open after that date.We will be enforcing a Tyvek ID wristband system for post-run festivities at the Lemon Hill Mansion. One wristband per bib number will be distributed on race day. Food, beer (must be over 21) and music plus an awesome performance T-shirt AND loads of swag! Hey, what more could you want?... Sunny skies perhaps?Just a reminder??? this year???s event has a special purpose: we are raising money for the ALS Hope Foundation. Please invite your friends and running partners to join us. We expect a full house!!!You can help make this fundraiser a success and the best year yet. We encourage you to participate in the Out & Back Party Run and look forward to seeing you there!Follow the URL to take advantage of on-line registration:http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1516165We look forward to seeing you at the 12th Annual Out & Back Party Run!-O&B Race Committee

Deirdre - you rock! I LOVE the Out & Back Run. I've done it for at least the last three, maybe four years...I've made it a staple on my race calendar. For those of you who haven't done it yet, it starts at Lloyd Hall, goes out 2 miles on the path, and comes back 2 miles. Then there's a big after party with food and BEER. Good times! You should all sign up! :)

I'm in.

Deirdre-are you signed up with TNT to do the mentoring already?

Hmmmm... beer! =) I wish there was a big party with food and beer after my run yesterday... which also started at Lloyd Hall... I will be very happy when these 12+mile runs are over... (which makes me think the whole marathon thing is just plain silly!)

I am registered to do the Lehigh Valley Half Marathon on Sunday April 25. Maybe a 4 mile run on Friday will be a good warm-up for Sunday!?!? On the following Sunday May 4, I will be running the Broad Street Run (10 miles).
I am also interested in signing up for The Black Bear Half Ironman on June 1, does anyone want to join me? There is also a sprint distance.

Beth, is there any kind of master schedule on the blog that we could all enter our events?

I am excited for Broad Street... we should all do it! Dave... the Leigh half sounds interesting... I might be interested in it depending on how the half in February goes... I liked to say that passing on Black Bear is because it's my birthday... by I have a feeling it is really just those hills! =)

Hi all. I registered for the Out & Back. I haven't registered for Broad Street yet but I'm sure I'll do it. That might be my longest race this year!

I'll see if I can put a master list together of events... If you all can send me the dates that you have for things and/or links to websites, that would help. Thanks!

Beth said...

Okay Dave - I have a list in the top left-hand corner of the main page of the blog where we can keep a list of events. Like I said everyone, send me the dates you have for any event and I'll update the list.

I like the list of events! Great suggestion Dave and thanks to Beth for setting it up. I just signed up for the Out N' Back too. I am a big fan of food and beer.

I guess I should sign up for Broad Street too so I have something to train for other than the philly tri. That should get me running sooner. Hmmm...

You are welcome. I didn't know that I could do that so I'm glad Dave prompted me to look into it. We can also do polls if we want. I can add a picture of us, too. We'll have to get a group photo!

I have a picture from the DQ event. I will email it to you.

I think that the girls and I will come down to cheer you all on, but I don't think that I will participate in the Broad St. The 10 miles is a bit too much for me.

But the run is downhill! (I think it is funny when people say that... because it is still 10miles!)... =)

Beth said...

I love how people say it's downhill. It feels flat to me and there are a couple inclines even though it's hardly anything to write home about.

Let me know what you guys think of the picture! Thanks for sending it Chuck! I think we need to get another one that is a little closer up so we can actually see our faces! :)

Can you sign up for the Broad Street pretty close to the run date or does it get sold out? I don't think that I can do it, but I was looking at the last issue of Triathlon and they show a Mark Allen training routine that would prepare you for a 1/2 marathon in 12 weeks. The program looks similiar to what we would be doing for TNT, with just longer run times.

I know that we have discussed the Turks Tri for 2009, but there is also a Nevis Tri around the same time. www.neviscycleclub.com. I have been to the St. Kitts and took a brief and highly intoxicated trip to Nevis. From what little I remember, there is a beach with sand and palm trees. Look at the Oulie Beach Hotel picture where you are 40-60 ft. from the beach. Ahhh...can you tell I need workout motivation?

You can also look at Hal Higdon and Jeff Galloway plans for half-marathons... that are 12 weeks... they are very non-runner friendly! Ask my friend Adrian who has been using the Higdon novice one... since her training for our Feb. race didn't start to VERY late.

Hey gang - we had our final weigh in today. My team lost 45 pounds!! We all averaged about 15 pounds! I'm not sure if we won. I have a feeling that we came in second place... Damn! But I'll keep you posted. CBS filmed us again today so after we find out who won the challenge, the segment will air. I'll let you know when that is.

Have a great weekend!

Shannon said...

Congrats!! I will keep my fingers crossed that you guys won... can't wait to see the footage! =)

Chuck W. said...

Nice job Beth! I could stand to lose 15 pounds myself. I am so sore from lifting. Did anybody go to the TNT info meetings this week? My first scheduled one is this Wednesday down at Chestnut Hill Hospital. Anyone going to that one too?

Have a great weekend.

Shannon said...

I am going to the meeting on Wed.

DaveM said...

Great job Beth. Hope you win.

I am sending in my sign-up forms for the TNT Philadelphia TRI this week. The forms were emailed to me by Amy.

Beth said...

That's great Dave! I started "training" for the tri this weekend by getting in the pool. It was for only 15 minutes and I felt like I was starting from scratch! I'm going to have to make the swim my priority for a little while.

Chuck - it shouldn't be too hard for you to lose 15 pounds. You could probably make a couple little changes to see big results! I could help you if you want. Email me and let me know!

Beth said...

BTW - my company blocked me from starting new posts...and I think we need a new one - this one is getting long. Can someone start a new one? Thanks!

Hey gang - There is a Total Immersion swim clinic at my gym (PSC - Radnor) on March 8-9. It's $495. If you sign up online you have to pay the full $495. If you do it over the phone, then you pay a deposit of $250 and the balance is charged the week before. You can check it out at www.liquidlifestyles.net or www.totalimmersion.net
