Congratulations to all my teammates for their fine showing yesterday. I don't know about all of you, but I am tired and sore. I went back and looked at how I did last year. I guess I just pace myself better in the swim this year because my time is the same. My big time reducers was in transition. Oh well, that race is behind me and now I will focus on the next one (Philly Women Tri?).

Shannon-please extend a thanks to your dad for the Bolen knot. Also, to all of you that brought food and to Bernadette for grilling-THANK YOUUUUUUUU!!!!

Beth said...

Bernadette - thanks for grilling and thanks for the brownies! They were delicious! I had mine for breakfast!

I don't know about any of you but I could eat anything in sight and be hungry an hour later. I feel like I can't eat enough today!

Great job everyone! Shannon - congrats on your entry to the championships!

My official time was 20 seconds slower than last year but if you count that I took a 45 second bathroom break, then I did better than last year! I am going to have to look into foot cramps. I think I need to make sure I get enough potassium, magnesium, and calcium before the next race! I probably should have had some coffee, too...I felt like my gas tank was on empty during the swim! But I have to say, I really enjoyed the whole race (minus the foot cramp)! I think I smiled at all of the cameras that I saw.

Looking forward to Philly Women's Tri! I can't wait to see Chuck out there in his sports bra and running skirt!

OK - I take that back! I just checked the official results and it does show my time as 10 seconds faster than last year! Whoooohooo! My T times were both quicker. My swim time was 2 1/2 minutes slower, bike was less than a minute slower, but my run was 1:25 faster. Imagine if I didn't get a cramp in my foot!

Shannon said...

Congrats everyone!! What a difference a year makes... mentally, physically etc.

Thanks everyone for yummy food yesterday... Bernadette, once again your amazing grill skills were superb. You rock!!

Let me know what you find out about foot cramps... just to store away for the future! =) I continue to promote my five hour energy drink! =) I am ALL about eating today... seems like I am starving!!

Gotta refuel the body... I am supposed to run 3miles today for the marathon plan... c'mon rain!!

Chuck W. said...

Run three miles today? Are you crazy? It was painful to walk down to the end of the driveway to get the girls onto the bus this morning. I am going to have to stretch before attempting my Costco trip this evening and I am sure that will require multiple breaks in front of the free food stands.

Beth-Thanks to you and Eric for the ride down to the race. I think that for next year I am going to bring down the girls wagon and we can just cart all our crap up and down Black Rock Road.

I think that future evening workouts will be 30 min bike/30 min runs. I had nothing left after I got off the bike. That may have something to do with the fact that I did not rehydrate during the first loop and continued to battle stomach cramps in the 2nd. I should have just stuck with Gatorade like I train with since I never have cramps then (or during Blackrock).

Congratulations to everyone! Without all of you to share this journey with, the event would have been meaningless. Well, maybe it would have had some meaning. But you all make it so much more fun!

Plenty of soreness last night, every time I had to get up from sitting down! But today is not too bad, just a memory. I took more than 30 minutes from last year's time, landing me smack dab in between my goal times of 3:30 to 4 hours. I guess there's something to that goal stuff!

Bernadette, if you didn't organize the meal I'd probably be sitting there eating whatever was around out of the bowl. Thanks.

Chuck, I'm glad to hear that you didn't have to wrestle anyone on the bus to summer camp in your condition. And do you mean black bear?

BernadetteM said...

hey gang, Congrats to all of you. You did a fabulous job yesterday. Great picture of the picnic area at the Perk. Shaven 1 hour over my Black Bear time and was about the same as She Rox. Finally got a great medal to show for all my efforts. Great picnic and thanks for all the good food. Would like the desert recipes Beth? Please. Thanks for the potatoe salad receipe Shelly it was very good. Felt ok this morning getting out of bed but real stiff now. Rode our hybrid bikes to the gym (only about a mile) and ran a little (1 mile also)Feeling my age tonight. Good luck Shannon on the big move. Now that Philly tri is done what's next everyone? Are we swimming at the Perk this Sunday? Have a good week Hey Chuck what's the story behind the sports bra and skirt that Beth mentioned?

Beth said...

OK - these are the QUICK recipes...

Buy the Betty Crocker Peanut Butter Cookie dough mix and the recipe for the peanut butter chocolate bars is on the back of the bag! (You bake the dough in a 9x13, let it cool, then melt 2 cups of chocolate chips and pour over top. Refrigerate 1 hr. Take out of fridge long enough to cut thru the chocolate. Cut into squares.)

Fruit Tart: Sugar Cookie bottom. (Betty Crocker has a good one in the bag.) Bake at 350 degrees for 22 to 25 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Let cool 5-10 minutes before next step.
Icing:
1 block of cream cheese
1/3 c sugar
1 tspn vanilla extract
Beat with mixer until blended. Spread on top.
Arrange fruit on top.

I usually do strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and kiwi, but the fruit selection wasn't great at the grocery store...

Enjoy!

So far, other than the potassium, magnesium, and calcium, and STRETCHING before/after exercise and before/after bed...I have learned that if I sleep with a bar of soap between the sheets that I'll never have a leg cramp again!

Chuck W. said...

Yes I meant Blackbear.I don't know what my plans are for this weekend yet, but will let you all know. I think that the weather is not supposed to be cooperative. I still can't believe that my swim time compared to last year is the same. I felt like it was such a struggle to finish the swim in 07.

Shannon-are there any slots for NJ Tri open?

Chuck W. said...

Shannon-the PTC with the tats is Matt Coleman. You kept calling him Chris on Sunday.

Shelly said...

So what are the exercise plans for this weekend? The weather report looks horrible - thunderstorms Sat and Sun.

Bike/run at Oaks anyone?

Beth said...

I'm not sure what I'll be doing this weekend workout-wise. All I know is that I am only going to be working out on Sunday. We've got a wedding Friday night and then a trip to Maryland on Saturday to Sunday for my cousin's graduation party. I think I need to practice the bike/run and my swim time needs to get better. I'm going to start practicing with that 5-hour energy drink and see if it helps.

I've been trying to add more potassium-rich foods to my diet, too. We'll see if that helps!

Chuck W. said...

What are potassium rich foods? Still feel a little sore today but I am not sure if it is from the tri or golfing yesterday. I almost had a hole in one, leaving it 8" from the hole. Came home to find that both girls were infected with lice. Lovely. Makes for a very late and frustrating night at the Wurzbach household. It is kind of difficult to workout afterschool/work as I don't want the girls around other kids.

I am going to the TNT party next thursday at Chickie and Pete's. It is hard to believe that this cast of characters were formed at this event last year.

Is anyone up for Vincetown Tri?

BernadetteM said...

Hey ladies, Who is doing Philly women and who is doinf She Rox? Chuck, when is Vincentown? Are we thinking of doing the same Marlton tri we did last year? Sorry to hear about the lice. Bet that's alot of fun. Took a few days off but gotta get back to training so can we swim this weekend at the Perk if it's nice enough?

Shannon said...

Matt... right... Chris is the name 'close' friends call him! =) HaHa

Lice... yuck!!

Survived the move... BARELY!! Lots of entertaining stories to tell... still looking to get settled... LOTS of stuff to do. I have been running, but not far or hard enough. I am doing Philly women... have not checked on NJ State chuck... will try and get to it...

More later... need to head back from Starbucks... home internet soon!!

You all ROCKED Tri-buddies, and great picnic afterwards.

Bernadette and I rested on MonDAY, but got back to training on Monday night when B and I rode our path bikes to the club were we ran on tread mills and indoor track, then used whirlpool. On Tuesday I rode my bike to work, it was a beautiful morning, ran 5k at lunch then rode bike home. Rode bike to work on Wednesday and will ride on Thursday and run again at lunch. I have been eating a lot of food also. I need to run more so that my legs won't cramp during the run. I here tonic water (quinine) will help with muscle cramps. A few ounces before bed everynight. I will try it! I should be able to run a 10k in 54 minutes not the 1 hour plus that is keeping me back. My bike rank was 417/1892 but the run was 1393/1892. I MUST GET BETTER AT THE RUN. When I do the Timberman Half Ironman on August 17 I will run better!!!

I think we should plan a Tri-buddie bike ride along the Delaware River (New Hope to French Town or Lehigh Valley Gorge).

Chuck W. said...

Shannon-I thought you were moving THIS weekend. There is nothing I hate more than moving as I tend to find myself walking around in circles. If it doesn't rain tonight, I think I am going to run on the trail this evening.

Shelly said...

Chuck, important lice information (although disgusting and hard to recover from): pack their heads with vaseline. Leave on for 48 hours, I think... could be 24. As you can imagine, it takes alot to get the stuff out, but having survived several bouts of head lice, it's the only way to totally irradicate them without repeated rounds of the special shampoo and nit picking. Unless the technology has improved in the past 15 years.

BTW, they should be able to see their regular friends, because it's a sure thing that they all have lice.

How about you? Who's doing your nit-picking?

Dave, it makes me tired just reading your workout schedule. However, I noticed that the body pump class at my gym is not all that challenging anymore, so I guess I'm getting stronger.

Chuck W. said...

The stuff you can put on their hair is pretty good. You can only use it once every ten days. And then you comb. Often. slowly. When of Maggie's classmates' mom works in the pharma industry and informed me they are trying to get to market a pill that would get rid of lice. If only...

I am not able to participate in things this weekend. A look around the Wurzbach Estate reminded me that I have some garden work that needs to be done. Also, we are going to a pool party on Sunday.

Next week I am in Rhode Island on Monday and Tuesday and may take a couple days off up in CT for long weekend.

Vincetown is July 12th, the day before Philadelphia Women Tri. Since apparently you need to be a woman to be in the PWT, I guess I have to find some other event. However, depending on the family, I may volunteer for that event so I can cheer my teammates on (or pull them out of the water).

I had a deep tissue massage yesterday, my first. While it felt like she was beating the crap out of me, I feel great now!

Depending on the weather today I can do some yardwork. That may mean I might take another stab and pulling the girls in the bike trailer tomorrow morning. Since I will be riding at a slower pace, let me know if you want to join up.

I am also already signed up for the DQ at Marlton Lakes. I just looked at the Timberland site-very nice Dave. You will have to give us the scouting report to see if it is worthy of a roadtrip in 2009.

Beth said...

Hey gang - I'm signed up for PWT and Marlton Lakes, too. It should be a fun time! I hope my next swim in the river goes better than on Sunday.

I have been taking it easy this week...working out every other day. We have a wedding in Bethlehem tonight and a graduation party in Maryland tomorrow so I don't think I'll be working out until Sunday and then I might use the yardwork excuse... My workout this morning was OK. I forgot my swimsuit so I didn't get a chance to get into the pool. That's OK...next week I'll get back to it.

Have a great weekend everyone!

p.s. Chuck - I gave you some extra blogging powers so you can invite Diana to the blog.

Photo's from Philly tri are up The team phot of you all is great SOme great shots of everyone

Chuck W. said...

How were you able to get the group shot? I only see my pictures.

Beth said...

Hey Chuck - if you put in my bib number, it's in my photos. 1515 There is also some random dude in there, too. Odd!

Well, the wedding was fun last night but my feet are ready to fall off. We are going to have coffee out on the deck and then head down to Maryland for the graduation party. Talk to y'all later!

Beth said...

p.s. I think we should buy the photo! How about I get an 8x10 and 6 5x7's and then we can all have one? That package is a lot cheaper than us all buying 1 5x7...and the group picture is great!

Think about. Chat amongst yourselves, and then we can figure it out. We'll have to hold onto Nicole's until she gets back from Guatemala!

Chuck W. said...

I agree with Beth, the package is the way to go. I would like a copy of the group photo myself.

I bought a new bike this weekend, a Trek. I will have no excuse why I can't keep up with Dave now...

DaveM said...

Hi ALL - I went on a training ride with Ken Modica on Saturday, he is preparing for his Lake Placid Ironman. I showed him the LiveStrong Challenge century route. We left his house at 6:00AM and rode 106 miles with over 10,000 feet of climbing. Ken then ran a brick as I rode home to my house. He told me I should run a brick when I got to my house and I said I would, however I climbed into a cold bath instead.

Today I am working on my bilco door and found a colony of carpenter ants that have eaten away parts of my house. I guess I better work on that today instead of more training.

Chuck W. said...

10,000 feet? Dave, you rock! I think they would be feeding me from a straw for a couple days after that century ride.

I stripped my old bike of all the extras and will be giving it to Matt, the guy that ran Broad Street with us. I put on the old petals (now I know why I kept them!) and will kiss it goodbye this week. I dropped my petals, the computer and the aerobars off yesterday and Wednesday I am supposed to get it fitted properly. I didn't like the handlebars (too curved) so they let me pick out another one-no charge. A pleasant surprise, don't know if that is normal.

We are still dealing with the whole lice problem, so our trip to CT for the 4th is in jeopardy.

BernadetteM said...

Hey Chuck, what model and color is your bike? Sorry to hear that you still have the lice issue. Beth, great photo's, looks like you did smile at every photographer. What date is your wedding? Shannon, hope the move went well, how is the weather down there? Michelle, are you doing Philly women's tri?

Beth said...

hey gang...i'm back. I am envious of all those with central air. My window units just aren't cutting it for the rest of the house.

Hey Bernadette- I read somewhere, probably triathlete mag, how there are two types of triathletes...the ones who love it and then the ones who do it and complain about it the whole time. I decided to be the one who loves it and shows it the whole time...even though I did have to grit my teeth for a few miles at the end of the run. ;)

My wedding is October 11th. I think the time between now and then is going to fly by! I have to get back on my diet and get back into training so that July 13th goes well. I'll get back to training tomorrow! Right now I'm going to go through my office and try to organize it a little better...I think I'll sweat off a couple pounds while doing it so I'm counting that as my workout for today! :)

Have a good week!

Shannon said...

HELLO...

Wow... sounds like a fun bike ride Dave (kinda like Black Bear was a 'fun' triathlon). =) All the boxes are gone... the only thing left to do is hang pictures at some point... I am letting the walls and apartment tell me where to hang things (read this as I am taking a break from the whole moving process and will eventually get around to hanging pictures!) I have been running all week... marathon prep. The tri club down here does bricks every Saturday, but there was some standing water on the bike loop so instead opted for a 60 mile ride... I passed and rain for 9miles instead. The weather is one thing I didn't miss... it is horribly humid here.... always! Having a pool is nice though. My apartment is officially a grown-up apartment ... and I have lots of space for guests... if anyone wants to visit DC... my place is always open. =) I am supposed to go swimming tomorrow night with the triathlon club... I am nervous and looking for excuses to not go...hopefully I won't back out.

I am excited to see your new ride Chuck... fancy!

I have no July 4th plans... except for a bike ride and long run... yes, I am loser! BUT... I am excited to see everyone the following weekend for PWT... yeah!! =)

Here's my new house # 240-669-6001... cell is the same.

DaveM said...

Hey Chuck - Where did you buy the bike. What model TREK did you get. I will have to be looking over my shoulder now for the new competition.

Shannon - Great To here that you are settling in to the new apartment.

I am in on the deal for the team picture. Please keep me informed.

Chuck W. said...

I got the Trek 2.1 at Guy's Bicycles. I went there instead of Performance as I have been looking at other racers bikes and noted that so few are Scatteline (sp?), which appears to be their main brand, in the transition area. You all talk up the Trek brand too. I also went there because the are the sponsor of the Philly Tri Club, so I figured that they have a better understanding as to what my needs are. Compared the Trek and Cannondale models and liked both. Cannondale was about $400 more and the components were the same.

When I get back from my trip, I will order the group photo package. When they come in, whoever wants one can let me know and I will bring them to one of our practices. Speaking of practices, just because it is July 4th week does mean that you people can slack off. I am taking my bike to Pittsburgh to practice out there. Staying at my in-laws for 4 days is NOT the reason why I need to go for a really long ride (or two) and run. It is for training purposes only. At least that is what I keep telling my wife...

Shannon said...

I definitely am in on the group photo as well... my dad said the guy in the orange shirt looks 'sharp'... only a confident man can carry an orange shirt! =)

I am not slacking on training this weekend... not sure what I am doing yet, but I have a long at some point and probably a bike ride.

Shannon said...

OMG... I went to my first DC tri club swim practice... whoa... talk about an official butt kicking!! Crazy to have a coach walk along the pool deck and give immediate feedback on your swimming... =) And at the end of the practice... a workout summary... I can't remember swimming that far or hard in forever... the big question is if I suck it up and go back on Wednesday =)
