Less that two months to Philly Tri

How time flies...Congratulations to Shannon for kicking some serious tail this weekend in Florida. I now have to figure out a way to attach my bike to yours to help me get across the finish line!

Cold bike ride this morning with two unplanned pathside bike repair clinics. Beth was kind enough to show the mentees the necessity of carry supplies to fill your low tires. Afterwards, I decided to run into a big pothole and show the TNTer's how to change a flat tire. Considering that I hadn't done that before, I was quite proud of myself. For the record, that is the third tube change on my bike this week. I hope that I am getting this out of the way before we start racing.

As for this week, weather permitting I would like to go for a long run on Tuesday and a light run on Thursday in anticipation of running Broad Street. I got some childcare commit issues to resolve and hope to do that on Monday. All runs would meet at 6 at Spring Mill if you are interested in joining. I believe that as of now Shannon, Beth and Michelle are running on Sunday. Anyone else? If so, we should also plan on some post-run food/refreshments?

Congrats Shannon! I want to hear all about St. A's!

I will probably get there really early and park at the Wachovia Center and take the subway over. If you have a race # then the ride is free. Traffic is a b--tch so plan accordingly! Chuck, if you want to meet at the park and ride in Conshy, we can carpool. I am thinking that a cooler is mandatory and if we want, we can tailgate at the car after...of course, I'm not sure if alcohol is permitted in that parking lot...

p.s. I don't know how long I would actually stay because I have a test on the 9th that I need to get home and cram for...but I'd probably need a nap before studying so what's a beer or two?

Good bike ride yesterday! I'm glad we went out, otherwise I would have probably skipped a workout. I was a zombie for the rest of the day!

I am in for the long run tomorrow. I'm thinking 8 miles so maybe we should meet at Conshy and go to the end of the path and back. Thoughts?

I would like to invite everyone over to my place for breakfast-type food after the Broad St. run. Lots of it, and loaded with carbs and fat. Like pancakes, sausage and bacon. I live near 5th & Oregon, and there's lots of parking in the school lot at the end of the street. Let me know.

OK, just signed up for Pine Barrens sprint on May 17. They also have an Olympic distance tri on Sept 6...

I am alive... arrived in Philly at 1:30am... got home at 2 and finally crashed a mere 25 hours after waking up on Sunday at 5:15am. Except for the sun burned neck... I am feeling fine... going to the gym to ride for 60 minutes (but I am probably going to whimp out and ride the recumbent bike instead of the regular stationary to give my 'soft tissue' am chance to recover and day off! =) I would love to join u guys for the long run tomorrow, but have my last classes EVER... yeah! =) I think on Thursday Michaelle and I were thinking of heading to Wenonah for the swim and run after... have to check weather.

Your bike ride sounds like an adventure... three flats in a week... whoa!

=) Meeting both/either pre-post broad street is a good idea... I am up for anything

I'm sure it's me, but my left eye is sore and bloodshot from the baby shampoo I put in my goggles this morning. It was actually baby head to toe wash. And I put in a good drop and rubbed it around, rather than just putting a thin coat on the goggle. But I had to stop halfway through my 1000 meter time test to rinse everything off, because my eye was burning so badly. So, is it the wrong product, the wrong technique or am I just that sensitive?

Shannon said...

Ouch! Sorry to hear that... I have never actually used the baby shampoo... only goggle de-fogger... and the goggles I have now actually don't fog... or have yet to fog since using them. I think Beth is the goggle/shampoo expert....

Forgot to tell you all about the number of folks who got motion sickness from the waves while swimming and threw up in the water (both during practice swim and actual race)... crazy thing to see...I definitely now appreciate the with the current river swim (or even triangle course lake swim)--

I used my kids shampoo and it worked no problem. Did you get water in your goggles?

We ran 8 miles last night and I able to make the long walk from bedroom to office this morning.

For Saturday, the girls and I are going to visit the TNT swim practice and then head to the expo to pickup my packet.

Swimming through heavy waves and vomit sounds like so much fun. It reminds me of the summer after college at the Jersey shore...

Whow - that sounds disgusting! Thank you baby Jesus that we are in the river!

Shelly - it has to be baby shampoo of the No More Tears variety. I bought a little travel size no more tears J&J baby shampoo and a thin layer works very well. And that travel size is plenty! I even got water in my goggles once but my eyes didn't get red or burn. I just noticed that it was getting in my eye and rinsed, dried, and re-applied the thin layer. I hope your eye is OK!

I am going to pick up my packet post- TNT practice as well...just what I need... another expo to spend $ at.. =)

Chuck, I'm very proud of you for going all 8 miles! ...even with me complaining for the last 5 of them. I was pretty much in pain the rest of the night and still hurting this morning. I don't think it was what I ate before we ran...unless it was something that was bad...I think I have a stomach bug.

I will also be picking up my race packet after practice. I didn't realize last year all the cool stuff I could buy at the expo. But I did get my face tested for skin cancer and my BMI checked in the IBX bus outside. That was pretty cool. If you want to see what fat looks like, I'm sure they will have the table there again this year. I ate like a health nut for at least a week after that! Free samples...lots of stuff to buy...Tri teams will have booths there. It was a good time. My advice, though...find your number before you go up the escalator. They usually have a big board with your name and number and then you go up and get your packet. I think I'm going to bring in an extra bag to carry around all the goodies I'm going to pick up! Woo Hoo!!!

Maggie is very excited about seeing where the Eagles play. Beth-thanks for keeping up (or slowing down) with me last night. I feel like I should be able to go the distance on Sunday. I am going for a light run on Thursday night, so I won't be joining the open water swim in NJ. I haven't been swimming like I should for the upcoming races and will really need to focus on it after Sunday.

I just read that post again and Michaelle - baby head to toe wash is definitely the wrong product to be using! Like I said, no more tears. I can even give you some if you bring a small empty bottle to practice. I have a huge 12 oz bottle at home. I didn't realize I'd only need that travel size one and it'd last forever with how little you need to use!

I am still not feeling up to par. I'm going to be questionable for tonight's run.

I am running on Sunday. Bernadette and I would enjoy participating in what ever celebration the group decides. What can we bring? Are we planning on wearing our TNT shirts for Broad Street?

Chuck W. said...

Dave-glad to hear that you will be joining us (along with 18k others) for the run. As post-race celebrations, I will have a cooler in the truck and Beth was taking hoagie orders. If you want her to pick you up a sandwich, email either her or I directly. We are going to park in FDR, but I am pretty sure that you will make it to the finish line before I do. I can call you on Sunday morning on your cell to give you an idea as to where we are parked. Are you going to the expo after swim on Saturday?

Beth said...

Hi Dave - let me know your order if you want something! I'm picking up hoagies from Primo's. There is food after the race but it's the kind of stuff you have to grab and take with you (soft pretzels, etc). I think I saw yogurt there last year. I don't know who in their right mind eats yogurt after running 10 miles!

Anyway - looks like Eric is still coming with me to the pasta party even though I did tell him he didn't have to go with me.

Chuck - are you running tonight? If so, drop me an email. I'm leaving around 4, though, so text if it's after. I'm not sure if I am going to make it, but most likely will.

I'm still on the fence about the TNT shirt/singlet/etc.

I just realized that most of these posts were from me! Dave & Bernadette, if you want me to pick you up a hoagie, I'm ordering from Primo's and getting them tomorrow since it'll be too early to get them Sunday morning.
