I won't be at the group training this coming weekend either (Klein family fishing trip) so I have to get my training in during the week. I have weight training tomorrow and spinning on Wednesday so I need to get a run in.
The weather channel says that it'll be 68 degrees on Thursday! Are we going to try to organize a buddy run?
I swam for 30 minutes today and I think I only went 1/2 a mile. That is NOT good. My goal for this week is to get to the gym at least twice to swim after work.
Is anyone else finding it hard to get in gear with training?
Some days I definitely have been 'unmotivated'... I have been telling myself it is normal (especially since this whole training thing started forever ago with St.As & the half-marathon)... BUT I think for all of us this weather is a killer for motivation as well. Saturday is a great example... while getting up early to run wasn't my first choice... having warm weather & buddies made it so much better than if I had to run at the gym. UGH! Sunshine and nice weather need to get here quickly... I am definitely up for a run on Thursday... especially if it is nice weather!!
I am jealous that Beth will be baiting the hook while the rest of us are running. I am participating in Maggie's school 5k on Saturday and will not be at the group workout. I will probably take a long bike ride on Sunday instead of Saturday.
I tip my hat to those that went out on Sunday morning. Rain, wind and cold was enough for me to walk back into the house. I refuse to by cold weather bike clothes. It was crazy on Saturday too because I was running in the morning with a t-shirt on and watching a lacrosse game a couple hours later with the girls bundled up in a blanket!
I plan on going to the pool today at lunch. All these hot 60 year old ladies in the slow lane dig me with cool blue goggles. I would hate to disappoint.
I think that starting next week I am going to run on Tuesday/Thursday evenings at the trail and bike on Wednesdays with swimming during lunch. I need to get on the schedule.
When were you taking your people to the bagel place?
I am not sure exactly what I am going on Saturday in terms on practice... St.As is swimming at 8am & Philly bikes at 9am. I may try some combo., but was thinking of a bike/run on Sunday as well... keep me posted on your plans Chuck... if you wouldn't mind some company
Hey tri buddies. It was cold and wet on Sunday wish you were there. COngrats to Aunt Beth. How wonderful for you. Fishing is only fun if you are in a hammock on the shore with a good book watching others fish but hope you have fun. I agree with the unmotivated ones. The weather is definitly a downer. Not fun to be out in the cold and wet but warm weather will come soon I hope! Have a good week. Hope to see some of you this weekend
If you do go for a bike ride, what time were you going to meet? If I get back early enough, I'll try to catch up with you. I'm at the mercy of my future mother-in-law, though, so i can't make any promises.
Pink, Dave and I will be biking this weekend, not sure what day TNT is training but I'll be there. Hopefully it will be at least dry. Don't want to ride in the rain again.
I am fight a cold right now. Both girls have gotten it and pass it to me too. Fun! I am not sure how much running on Thursday I will be doing, but will give it a shot.
Saturday it is supposed to be warm (good) and rainy (bad). I hope that it holds off during the race. Sunday is supposed to be cooler but dry.
Does anyone want to meet at the Boathouse next Thursday after our run? I might float that to my people.
I am over this weather... any day now we may see the sun again! I am waiting to hear who from my people will be there Thursday... if any. I'll be there and 'plan' on running for about an hour... but we all know what happens to plans!
I am going to swim at 8am on Saturday with St.As and head over to bike on MLK after... it is not raining bad.
Still would like to bike on Sunday... maybe even follow it up with a run... wild I know! Hopefully it won't be cold or wet!
So - I won't be at the run tomorrow - Eric planned a meeting with a priest for 7 pm. Since we are getting married and NEED a priest, I have to go. So much for running and swimming! Maybe I'll skip the Friday night dinner with the in-laws and do my swimming and running then.
The Boat House next week sounds good! I'll let my people know.
OK - I'm back on! The priest has a funeral mass and can't meet with us tomorrow.
BTW - I just found out that some of my former train friends will be at happy hour next week so I'm definitely up for a run and a beer (or two) next Thursday!
Do you need us to play the role of the priest? I went to 12 years of Catholic school, so I think that I can probably fill you in on the priest concerns.
The first would be livin' in sin...
The second would be the amount of alcohol that you keep in that house of yours...
The third would be those "unfavorables" you associated (ie, train) with...
I think you hit all the questionable points of discussion Chuck... u definitely should be able to add 'priestly duties' to your list of official roles.
PS: Is it bad that while swimming today I realized that St.As is only two weeks away? Hmmm...
In response to Chuck's questions... 1. It is cheaper to live in sin. 2. We don't drink all that alcohol. (All at once, anyway!) 3. I can get rid of those train people...
Please tape the part of the priest conversation where you tell him that you two live together because "its cheaper". Do you think he starts hitting you with holy water then or immediately runs out of the room?
For the record, I lived in sin (twice) before I got married.
I think that they must have added glue in that crabcake sandwich last night because I could not get out of bed this morning...
Thanks again to Drill Sgt. Shannon for setting the tone at last nights run. Running 6ish miles w/o a break is the longest I have run. Ever.
The weather picture is starting to clear up for the weekend. The one thing that we were talking about is the lack of elevation training for the bike ride. I looked again at the Black Bear map and there is a lot of hills on the bike. If you all want to meet at Casa de Wurzbach we can ride up Skippack Road towards Skippack and then down Morris Rd. It is not something that I would do during rush hour, but Saturdays/Sundays there is less traffic. Or we could meet at the trail.
I got a notice that if you are a member of a Tri club you get an upgraded shirt. Here is the details:
Tri club members get this upgrade FREE - If you are a member of a USAT Triathlon club (not racing team) you can receive the tech shirt for free while supplies last. • Register online and include your club affiliation. • Then send an email to triclubtecht@cgiracing.com to request the upgrade. If you are already registered simply send the email. • The only way to get your tri club upgrade is to pre-order via email. You cannot request the upgrade on race day.
Hill training is a good idea... I admit to being a HUGE wimp when it comes to riding on the road with cars & clipped in... and it has only gotten worse since the crash. However... Chuck the navigator has yet to steer us wrong on training course selection... so I am open to the idea... just nervous. I am going to also do some research on other hilly, limited/non-traffic routes (less than some crack head distance of 60 miles) in the area....
great find about the shirt... I am going email and see what happens. glad the weather is looking better.
I might as well confuse that in addition to Top Chef et al., I enjoy random watchings of Celebrity Fit Club on VH1 and Biggest Loser... but only to watch Jillian Michaels and Harvey (two INTENSE trainers)... maybe I channel them while working out... and Harvey is even a former Drill Sgt. =)
PS: Chuck should NOW DEFINITELY sign up for Broad St.
Hey All! yes, I'm down at the spa again, pool to my left, ocean on my right... wonderful people, Big new for me, my Mom has decided to sell the family house in State College (6 bdroom) and build a garden home in a 55+ community. Sill will have 4 bdrooms so plenty of continued good times at PSU games. Of course being the daughter, it will be eating most weekends until she sells and settles into the new home in Oct.\ See you soon, but mostly wk nights only. Still planning to do the out & back. Cheers
Hey Chuck and tri friends, a hilly ride on Sunday morning sounds great, then I have to do a long run (12 miles). I am doing the Lehigh Valley half marathon in two weeks. Please let B and I know where and when and we will be there.
I already ordered the Black Bear tech shirt when I registered. I will also email to see if I can get a refund, unlikely.
Next Thursday night out sounds GREAT.
I was very tired at TNT practice Saturday morning. Got home around 11:00 and took a three hour nap. That's what us old folks do. My training hours are slowly increasing, for example, last Wednesday I rode my bike to work, ran 5k during lunch then that night I swam 1.2 miles at the Y.
Beth, I also went to 12 years of Catholic education, Bernadette 16 years. But, in addition to school I was an alter boy for 8 years. And congrats Aunt Beth!
Valley Forge Park has some big hills...you just have to veer off the bike path (up the hill) and wind around until you get over to the park. I should have been riding there all along. You just have to contend with walkers/runners.

I was thinking the 19th after the swim practice...but no one has responded to my suggestion yet. I'll remind them again...

I will send an email to my people about the Thursday run. They haven't responded to my emails in the past, but who knows....
The more the merrier for Sunday. I am not going to broadcast that to my people since the are supposed to bike/run on Saturday.

I'll send an email about the Thursday run. I just lost 2 people from my mentee group. One due to surgery and another due to family issues.
If you do go for a bike ride, what time were you going to meet? If I get back early enough, I'll try to catch up with you. I'm at the mercy of my future mother-in-law, though, so i can't make any promises.
Not sure what the plan for Sunday is yet. They are calling for wet weather during the weekend,so I think I will make that decision on Friday.
Bernadette-I look forward to see the Pink Stallion in action soon. Did you want to ride Sunday too?
I asked Amy if I lost anyone, but she told that I hadn't at recommitment. I think that I have two people who have raised the minimum.
Pink, Dave and I will be biking this weekend, not sure what day TNT is training but I'll be there. Hopefully it will be at least dry. Don't want to ride in the rain again.
Hey Chuck - I will be at the run tomorrow night. I just sent the email to my people. I expect Paul to come but that's about it.
I have a feeling I'll be missing Sunday. Darn! Oh well - next week I'll be better!
p.s. I swam last night. It was horrible again! I'm going to have to go tomorrow after we swim, too! :(
I meant run.
I am fight a cold right now. Both girls have gotten it and pass it to me too. Fun! I am not sure how much running on Thursday I will be doing, but will give it a shot.

Why isn't beer on the agenda after tonight's run??
In response to Chuck's questions...
1. It is cheaper to live in sin.
2. We don't drink all that alcohol. (All at once, anyway!)
3. I can get rid of those train people...
As for tonight...
I haven't heard from any of my people. That seems to be the way it is.
I am running into a bit of a childcare situation, so I might not be there exactly at 6pm. If I am running late, I will let you all know via text.
Beer tonight? SURE!
Please tape the part of the priest conversation where you tell him that you two live together because "its cheaper". Do you think he starts hitting you with holy water then or immediately runs out of the room?

this is time #2 for me, too.
just text about tonight. I might be there early... we'll see how traffic is.
